My name is Michael Budig, and I am a German national. My career has entirely been dedicated to promoting U.S. interests in Germany. For 15 years I served as Senior Political-Economic Specialist at the Consulate General of the United States of America in Hamburg.
My work at the U.S. consulate was characterized by the following responsibilities:
- promotion of trade and economic relations
- intensive networking with executives representing trade associations, companies, politics, parliaments, governments, science, NGOs and the general public on state and federal level
- strategy development
- support of high-level delegations
- project and conference management
Prior to working at the U.S. consulate, I did a post-graduate internship in NATO’s International Staff. My first position after having completed university studies was project/research assistant at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), a leading German think tank.
I earned a M.A. in Political Science. In the United States, I studied at Georgetown University and interned at the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS). In Germany, I studied at the universities in Hamburg, Tübingen and Bremen.
